Day 8 Camels and Mountains

Today was all about expedition and adventure. The plan was to stop for a camel ride and do a waterfall hike in the Atlas Mountains. If you remember yesterday's blog we had a huge lunch at a fancy hotel. Unfortunately, it was a little too huge. I had a queezy stomach most of the day.

Started the day a little bit late. We were rushing through the twisted myriads of alleyways and that took a toll on our navigating capability. We finally left it to Allah. I don't know what I ever did to piss off allah but he led us up a dead end and by the time we backtracked  were 20 minutes late for pickup. Nothing like a minibus with lots of eye daggers to get the day started on the right foot.

By the time we got to the camels, I was starting to feel the nausea. But I soldiered on to complete the 30 minute ride.

The ride started with a change into a headscarf and jelalaba.

Next it was time to mount up. My camel stood up so fast he almost threw me off. But real thrill for me was taking two of my granddaughters on a camel ride.

Then we took a long curvy, narrow road high up into the hills. We are amazed by the amount of water flowing from the mountains into the desert. In fact, the Morrocans are planning to build a fifth dam to capture the water we are seeing and transfer it to Marrekech to support the growth and the 5 golf courses there.

Here's where I decided that discretion was the better part of valor. I sat out the 250 meter climb and 2 hour hike to the next village and lunch. Meanwhile we saw this waterfall where we waited for the rest of the group to come back from the hike.

Finally came the 90 minute drive back to Marrekech, the half-mile trek through the maze of the souk and a cozy bed.
