Day 4 our day in Sintra

We booked a tour with Rui who's lived in Sintra and Lisbon his whole life. We hopped a bus to the Bessa Hotel and met Rui there for the 45 minute drive to Sintra.

Our first stop was the Pena Palace. Our guide's focus was to show  us the grounds and exterior of the palace. The grounds reminded me of The Biltmore... Except steeper. It was beautifully landscaped with trees and shrubs from all over the world.

We continued up steep trails to the Palace.

Sintra is micro-climate with cool breezes coming off the Atlantic. You can barely see the clock tower in the mist above. From the Palace a we visited the old town of Sintra for lunch and tour furnished pastries for all of us. Then we toured the fascinating palace of Quinta da Regaleira and his spiral staircase to Hell fashioned after Dante's inferno.

Our last stop of the day was the westernmost point if continental Europe.

After that, a nice dinner at a sidewalk cafe just outside our apartment.
