Day 15 St.Peter's Basilica

In order to beat the inevitable crowds, and the 99 degree heat, we get up be early and catch a cab to St. Peter's. He still let's us out a good ways from the Square.
 You can see my shadow and Patrice's as we take pictures. Just the Square itself is fun to see with the columns and fountains.
And Swiss Guards...
But the star of the show is inside.

Here's the Pietà by Michelangelo. In addition to these priceless works of art the building itself is awe-inspiring.

Finally on the way home, I made an interesting discovery. These are the biggest knockers I have ever seen.

We ended the day with a great dinner at Scott and Allison's place. Bread and olive oil and fresh pasta... Hmmmm
